Hands Free for Me
06/06

Remember when you were a child riding your bike, negotiating the neighborhood tundra? The coolest kids built their cycling prowess up to the point that they’d defiantly release the front handles and pedal freely without using their arms at all. Talk about exhilaration…at least for those individuals blessed with decent hand-eye coordination. But if you’re like me, who, as an adult, still has trouble parking my car in a straight line - the concept of going “hands free” usually meant mom would be applying Neosporin and an extra large band-aid before nightfall. Until now.

You see, technological advances have transformed “hands free” into a rallying cry for us all. Think about the countless lives saved every day by people no longer trying balance a cell phone in one hand and hot coffee in the other while driving 85 miles an hour on their morning commute. Individuals with physical disabilities can use voice technology to create computer documents without typing or check the balance of a bank account without having to touch a dial pad. My favorite hands free technology is of the simpler sort – the no-touch automatic paper towel holders being installed in public restrooms. Good hygiene can also be great entertainment. If no one else is around, I’ll practice fake karate chops or create new dance moves to activate the dispenser with flair.

Hands free technology is definitely a gift. My advice is to have fun with it whenever possible. I know that I will!
