Gadgets-everyone wants one and everyone who has one can’t
live without them. From ipods to palm pilots to Bluetooth technology,
Americans walk around with some piece of electronic equipment attached
to their hip, ear, or dashboard at all times. It is almost like people
who don’t have one, or all, of these things are the odd balls who
we point and stare at because how can someone make it through the day
without their life altering piece of technology. Now, I have nothing against
leading a 21st century lifestyle, but I don’t think many people
are important enough to always have to be available (to their company
in particular).
Soon every gadget is going to be water proof, sweat proof and kid proof,
so not only can your boss reach you while you are on the can, but they
can now call you in the middle of your kickboxing class and you will even
hear the phone ringing as your kid punts your cell phone across the backyard
during a good ol’ game of back yard football.
Rather than be stuck on your cell phone or engrossed in your palm pilot,
take a break. Cut yourself loose from “the man” and enjoy
the company of those around you, even if it is for a few hours a day.
